Stoxnet Track Of The Year 2025
Built in 1971 as a speedway track, and opened for stock cars by Spedeworth in November 1983, although they were replaced by PB Promotions a year later. Vince Moody, who ran Skegness and Boston, took over in 1987, and he introduced F1 to the track.
The 7 meetings held in 1987 didn't get massive car turnouts or crowds, probably due to a combination of the remote location and Sunday afternoon fixtures that either followed Long Eaton or Crewe, or were the same day as Aycliffe.
For 1988 it was reduced to 4 Sunday afternoons, including a WCQR, a Grand Prix round, and the BriSCA Supreme Championship, but it wasn't enough to entice the cars or crowds, and the track was dropped from the F1 calendar.
A shale weekender of King's Lynn on Saturday night and Mildenhall on Sunday afternoon was tried in June 2002, but this produced the lowest car turnouts on shale of the year.
Spedeworth returned to the track in the mid-2010s, and brought F1 back to the track for a one-off meeting in April 2018, before the track returned as a regular venue in 2019.
