In 1946 Captain Arthur Westwood commenced construction of the stadium on the site of the cricket ground in the former Drayton Manor estate in Fazeley, on the outskirts of Tamworth. Much of the rest of the estate later became Drayton Manor Theme Park.
Greyhound racing began in 1947. Speedway ran from 1947 to 1950. A solitary stock car meeting was staged in 1954, but it ran in heavy rain and was a disaster.
Stock cars returned for regular meetings in 1960, and most notably, the 7th August meeting featured a demonstration of a new type of stock car. Intended to be a cheaper alternative to the stock cars being raced at the time, this was based on smaller 10 horse power cars and were named Junior Tens. This was the origin of what became BriSCA F2, and led to the original big cars being named BriSCA F1.
Regular meetings were held in 1960 and 1961, but problems with track damage led to the last two being cancelled. The stadium was demolished in 1962.
