Originally from New Smyrna Beach, Florida. He served in the US Air Force and was at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack in December 1941. He raced stock cars while stationed at RAF Chelveston. He retired from the USAF in 1960 and went home to Florida. In 1964 he retuned to England and lived in Northampton, where he met his wife Jillian. They lived there for another 17 years before moving back to the USA.
