Brough Park Stadium opened in 1928 for greyhound racing, with the Newcastle Diamonds speedway team taking up residence the following year.

Pioneer promoter Digger Pugh staged several meetings from July 1954 as part of a tour of Belle Vue and London based stock car drivers. The 1955 season appears to have been organised by a local stock car club, although details and results are scarce.

In April 1956 an application was made to Newcastle Council to stage meetings at the newly built stadium at Ouseburn, as new regulations meant that Brough Park could no longer be used.

Mike Parker took over the speeedway promotion in 1960, and in 1965 put on two F1 stock car meetings, although these were not recognised by the Board of Control, as at the time Parker was not a BriSCA promoter. Further meetings in 1967 and 1969 were official meetings, but it is not clear why there were not more.

The track returned for the 1989 season, promoted by local drivers Joe Jopling and John Toulson, but only one meeting was held before local complaints saw the track once again close to stock cars.
