Meadowbank Stadium was the home to Leith Athletic Football Club from 1936 to 1955.
A speedway track was installed in 1948, and the Edinburgh Monarchs raced there until 1954, when the post-war entertainment tax made speedway unprofitable.
Speedway was replaced with stock car racing, with 11 meetings being held between 1954 and 1957. Speedway returned in 1960 after the scrapping of the entertainment tax.
The stadium was demolished in 1967. The current Meadowbank Stadium, known as 'New Meadowbank', is to the south of the original stadium, retrospectively named 'Old Meadowbank', and as of 2018 is planned to be redeveloped.
