Out of 37 entrants named in the programme, only ten turned up at Portsmouth Stadium for Saturday evening’s stock car racing meeting. It was a disappointing first venture for Dan Spence, the local driver turned promoter. He also had another disappointment when his own car was put out of action in a first race pile-up. Star driver of the evening was again Curley Haines, “The Warsash Terror”. In the second race, he was led for 15 laps by A Wiltshire, a fast driver from Milton. But when he eventually caught the leader, Haines turned him completely over with a neat, but spectacular, ram. Wiltshire climbed out unhurt and came back for more in a later race.
